ADAPTABLE PUBLIC ARTISTS & DESIGNERS
Jamie Sargeant, John Morton and their extraordinary team are Studio 2. A collective of designers and public art creators who can work in a myriad of styles and materials – including: bronze, steel, concrete, timber, found objects and more. Operating from a workshop in Newcastle, Studio 2 collaborates with local councils, landscape architects and developers in the public art domain; as well as private clients.
Studio 2’s work extends beyond simple sculptures to words in sculptural form, sculptural seating areas, creative playground equipment, sculptural bike racks, fountains and water features (including water columns and illuminated creations), interactive LED light installations, wayfinding (including back-lit signs), doors and gates, forms and words embedded in concrete paths, and more.
Studio 2 has worked with many clients including the reputed garden designer Michael Cooke, Newcastle’s Mitchell Library, seating/play areas for Blackbutt Reserve, Newcastle beach boulevard shade shelters, Throsby Creek Aboriginal Memorial. Jamie Sergeant has participated in high profile exhibitions Michael Cooke, the Sydney Botanic Gardens, and Sculptures in the Gardens.
WORKING WITH COMMUNITY
Studio 2 enjoys the opportunity to work with local community groups on public art projects, to ensure a sense of authentic engagement and ownership of the creative outcome – while also ensuring a strong quality control process. Jamie has a long history of teaching sculpture in tertiary educational institutions. But he has also worked with a scope of different groups, including school children and those in correctional facilities, on specific projects.
