Janita is a communications and community engagement specialist with more than six years’ experience working with local and state government clients, including Maitland City Council and Lake Macquarie City Council. She has a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing many regional communities in the Hunter region, and has been involved in several key local projects including the Scone Bypass EIS, Hydro Kurri Kurri redevelopment and Newcastle Light Rail.

Key project: New City Vision & Community Strategic Plan
Janita lead an extensive citywide community engagement program to develop a new City Vision and subsequent long-term Community Strategic Plan. This 12-month engagement program employed a range of innovative online and face-to-face tools including virtual reality, interactive mapping and futurist forums to engage a population of more than 204,000 people. This project received the Innovation in Engagement award and Special Projects Award at the Local Government Excellence Awards.

2016-2017 | Employer: Lake Macquarie City Council
Project: Toronto Streetscape Masterplan
Janita managed communications and engagement during the staged construction program for the Toronto streetscape master plan project. This work involved direct impacts to businesses requiring sensitive and timely engagement and management.

Project: Thomas H Halton Park Masterplan
Janita managed an extensive staged engagement process to inform the development of the park master plan and detailed design. This regionally significant redevelopment involved targeted consultation with user groups, community pop-up exercises and online feedback.

2014-2015 | Employer: GHD; Client: Transport for NSW
Project: Newcastle Transport Interchange & Light Rail
Janita managed the communication and community engagement program for GHD, on behalf of Transport for NSW, inform the environmental and planning assessment process.

2015 | Employer: GHD; Client: Roads & Maritime
Project: Scone Bypass
Janita lead the community consultation program with GHD to inform the environmental approvals process and concept design for the Scone Bypass. This work involved landowner and business consultation to better understand the social and economic impacts of the proposal.

2014 | Employer: GHD; Client: Surf Coast Shire Council [Victoria]
Project: Conceptual Landscape Masterplan
Janita managed community and stakeholder engagement to inform the final plans. This work involved community workshops, interactive online mapping and survey design and review.
