Amber Herrmann


Amber has over 10 years experience in community and regional development. She believes in the value encouraging informed participation, introducing capacity building approaches and multi-agency collaboration to drive positive social change and strategic planning. Drawing on existing community skills and knowledge Amber helps to build resilient communities through people led planning to strengthen relationships, celebrate diversity and identify creative opportunities and direction.

Amber’s work in Community Development has grown into a passion for shaping quality public spaces by improving cultural, economic, environmental and social wellbeing in place. Specialising in community engagement to create connected neighbourhoods and vibrant, thriving streets Amber aims to activate places that stimulate human interaction, discussion and a sense of belonging.

Amber is experienced in policy development and strategic planning and has led the development of key strategic plans and programs within local government across the areas of arts and culture, community wellbeing and place activations.

Created the Council’s first ever Community Engagement Strategy to guide inclusive engagement practice and build participation in decision making.

Series of strategic workshops and public engagement to inform public art project in shopping precinct.

Project: Guraki Strategic Planning Workshop
The first strategic workshop for the Aboriginal leaders sitting on the representative committee.
Project: Carrington Greenspace Masterplan Engagement
A three phased engagement approach to inform design development and design deliberation utilising online and face to face methods.
Project: Stevenson Park Masterplan Engagement
Leading a participatory approach to engagement to include a diversity of users of the park. Involving and empowering the community at the early project stage created shared ownership of the project, built consensus on issues and encouraged sharing of skills and knowledge.

Information and idea development session with artists about the street art grant program.

Project: Place Activation Strategy Community Workshops
As part of the broader engagement program, these were interactive workshops with schools and the broader community to explore place stories and ideas for locally driven place activation projects and priorities. Over 70 community members participated.
Project: Place Activation Strategy Place Audits
Workshops on the move with diverse local leaders across key local precincts. The aim of these sessions was to gain insight into the opportunities and assets from street level.

Project: Bagot Aboriginal Women’s Group
Facilitated weekly group sessions with women from the Indigenous community of Bagot. Sessions involved local arts projects, enterprise development and cultural development.
